The little brother of Glenfiddich, tucked away a few hundred yards from its larger and more famous sibling, Balvenie produce some very approachable malt whiskies. Master blender David Stewart began experiment with secondary maturation a long time before it became the fashion. Many of the key Balvenie expressions have spent time in more than one type of cask.
Its most popular release is Double Wood - matured in ex-bourbon and then sherry casks - is easy to drink, complex and sensibly priced. Other expression such as Caribbean Cask and Portwood Finish are the result of David Stewart’s experiment with rum and port cask finishing.
